Retiring soon? Questions to ask about your coverage
Retirement is a useful time to take stock of the coverage you have and the questions you want answered. Your own employer and insurance documents are the starting point.
Loumina educational draft · Prepared November 7, 2026 · Professional review pending before publication. Canadian context; rules elsewhere differ.
Gather a simple overview
List the types of coverage you currently have, who provides them, and who you can contact. Keep account and policy numbers in your own secure records.
Ask before making assumptions
Ask your employer or insurer whether coverage changes when work ends, which dates matter, whether continuation or conversion options exist, and what deadlines or costs apply to your particular plan.
Connect the review to your priorities
Consider the people who depend on you, household commitments, and future travel. Write down what you want explained. A coverage review is separate from personalized pension, investment, tax, or legal advice.
